Review:

How well do you know the people you love? The people in your life that you see every day? You may be surprised.

This novel is about, well, a pilot’s wife. We start out with a knock at the door that brings her – Katherine – news of her husband’s death. The commercial airliner he was piloting has exploded near the coast of Ireland.

Katherine has to deal with this devastating piece of information, but before she even has a chance to digest it the press descends upon her. Was this explosion an accident? Pilot error? Terrorism? … something more shocking – suicide? Katherine is forced to deal with the rumors and speculation while navigating her grief and protecting her teenage daughter.

As the investigation unfolds it becomes apparent that she may not have known her husband as well as she thought she did. Rumors of a secret life lead her to discover the truth before she can allow any healing to begin, regardless of the consequences.

This novel captures the interest from the first knock until the final sentence. Outrage and sympathy for Katherine is easy to manufacture as she endures the journey no wife (or loved one) should ever have to partake in.

You will look at your spouse, family members and friends a little closer while reading this because how well can we ever really know someone else? It’s not like they come with a guarantee.

I recommend this book as a great read and an eye opener to the possibilities that no one wants to imagine.
