I'm a big fan of Roald Dahl's writing and Quentin Blake's illustrations. Roald Dahl has written many funny children's books such as The BFG, The Twits, James and the Giant Peach, The Witches, and Charlie and the Chocolate factory.
Rovolting Rhymes is a compilation of six nursery tales including Cinderella, Jack & the Beanstalk, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf, and The Three Little Pigs. However, Roald Dahl transforms and retells them in his own funny way. He tells his story in a rhyming sequence. The nursery tales all have a different twist in the end and are just plain hilarious.
My favourite has to be the Little Red Riding Hood, with the wolf getting killed by Little Red Riding Hood instead of the other way around. But I shall not tell you how she does it. You have to read the book to find out what happened.
Roald Dahl is full of creativity and that is what I hope to encourage my kids to develop through reading books like Revolting Rhymes to them. It's great to have a book you and your kids can laugh together with. I warmly recommend this book to all parents with kids who are familiar with the said nursery tales, to give them a new perspective from the original story.
