Cloven Hoof's A Sultan's Ransom is one of the best NWOBHM albums of all time.

After all, at the time it was released the NWOBHM had almost become an old wave, right? Wrong, totally wrong. What we have here is the best thing NWOBHM has ever released in its entire lifetime. Following closely in the footsteps of its predecessor The Dominator, Cloven Hoof managed to create this magnum opus suitably titled A Sultan’s Ransom. Who cares if it was released in 1989, the year when other genres in music were starting to gain more attention and pulling more people towards them, this little gem had all the ammunition to become an instant classic, which it eventually succeeded in doing.

Where MetalCore was born

The traditional death metal cookie monster growling were replaced with Lindberg's high-throated screaming, allowing for a great deal of emotional conveyance.
