The Wrong Boy by Willy Russell
Humor is the instinct for taking pain playfully. ~Max Eastman
Such is the power of humour in maintaining the balance of life. Willy Russel, in his book,"The Wrong Boy" clearly emphasises on both the humourous as well as tragic element in life.
It's all about Raymond Mark, a normal boy, who is falsely accused of misleading a group of his friends in school to indulge in a very crude game of perversion. He is despised by the society and even gets misunderstood at home for everything that he does. Loneliness haunts Raymond, who in an effort to bring normalcy to his life, starts patronizing Morissey' s lyrics and works and become his hardcore fan
The book is actually built upon letter that Raymond writes to Morrisey to pour out his woes on how things have turned up for him in life.
The first half of the book is nothing less than hilarious. The writing is so clear and confident that at times you feel the protagonist, Raymond is talking or conversing with you directly.Specially the transition between the past and the current are so cleverly seamless that you don't feel like putting the book down . The latter half dwells more on the sentimental part with the readers sympathizing with the central character most of the time. The sharp contrast of Willy's comical narration help the readers from slipping of to melancholic mood, however. It is quite pertinent that a person who's going to read this is going to be a Russel fan.I am sure I gonna like this , if I read this again and so this goes to my collection
