If I Stay, by Gayle Forman

If I Stay, written by Gayle Forman, is a beautiful young adult novel which deals with themes including love, family, and death.

17-year-old Mia climbs into the car with the rest of her family on a snowy Oregon day, oblivious to the fact that the car crash which follows will kill her parents and younger brother, leaving her in a coma. The novel discusses Mia's decision regarding whether she should fight for her life, or join the rest of her family in death. She still has her boyfriend, her best friend, and her love of music, but she isn't sure if she can live without her family.

The novel is a quick read, approximately 200 pages long, but at times it felt like too much. The author alternated between the present time and flashbacks to tell the story, but the flashbacks seemed boring, and I found myself wanting to skip over them and find out what happened next.
I would recommend it to anyone who likes to get a bit teary over sad novels. They are currently making it into a movie, so if you are the type of person who likes to see the book before watching the movie, then it is a worthwhile read.
