dead silence;
seeing as how reviewparty.com didn't have a 'horror' section for any dvds, i had to stick this under another category for the movie "dead silence". if you're a horror freak or just like to be scared, this movie is for you. it covers the basic horror elements: absurd stalker-esque threatening monster in the background that no one is able to reveal until the end, the main character trying to figure out whats going on while still keeping his head (or his this case, his tounge) in tact. and finally, the menacing twist that makes your mind do a 180, making you ask yourself what just happened here.
the cast in itself was decent. jaime seemed a little whiney at times though. the detective 9who also plays in the SAW series) makes an apperence in this movie as well, and to be perfectly blunt i don't really like him in this role. hes the asshole detective who doesnt mind his own buisness and feels the need to get so close to jaime at times that i feel like he has a man crush on him. that stupid shaver he constantly feels the need to use also just points out how vain he is, thus aggravating me with his character even more.
the total mindfuck came at the end though where everything you thought you knew - you didn't. of course. because then it wouldn't be a horror movie now would it.
the fact that jaime's dad was dead throughout the entire thing (think norman bates) and how his new lady friend ella make him into a doll kind of tripped me out. but what was even more trippier was the poem being said through the course of the movie:
beware the stare of mary shaw,
she had no children, only dolls
and if you see her in your dreams
be sure you never ever scream
and why shouldn't you scream, you may ask? long story short without giving much away, jaime's great great uncle decided to be a smart ass one night at a vantrillaquest show mary shaw was doing with her favorite doll "buddy". smart ass uncle pissed and embarrassed mary shaw off to the point where she placed a curse upon the family. townpeoples realized their children started to go missing and went to the one place to look in town -- mary shaw's. they tied her up, ripped out her tounge and left her for dead. soon all of the males (& eventually the females) ending up dying, found with their tounges ripped out.
there was an alternative ending that i watched, that i actually enjoyed better then the original and wish they would have used the alternative ending instead. but the way it ends is a twist in itself either way. if you enjoy puppets or dolls, or anything remotely scary then you should give "dead silence" a shot. its worth watching twice or maybe three times, but defintely not really worth having on repeat for the next six months.
