"Aliens in the Attic"
The new family movie, “Aliens in the Attic”, is a movie everyone has GOT to watch!
In the movie a teenager named Tom, his hormonal older teenage sister Bethany and younger sister Hannah gather with their cousins, uncle, parents and grandma at their rented summer vacation cottage. Soon after the family arrives, four space aliens from the planet Zircon invade the cabin in order to recover their lost space machine that will allow them to take over the Earth.
To recover the machine the kids soon discover that the aliens need to use their space mind controllers -like video game controllers familiar to all the kids!- and their mind controller plugs they shoot into peoples’ necks to control “Earthlings” and help them do evil. The kids soon find out, though, that the controllers only work on “mushy” adult brains, making the kids immune. The kids, then, have to stop these aliens at all costs while keeping their secret from their parents!
To add to the fun one of the four aliens is the engineer -not a fighter- and likes the humans and works with them in saving their planet. Also we’re introduced to Bethany’s self-absorbed, shallow, older, boyfriend, old enough to be controlled by the aliens. When his controller is on he is an alien killing machine and when turned off he acts like his faux, charming self; Bethany has no idea what happens and his mixture between charm and ambivalence when “controlled” has the un-witting Bethany turning her head in circles!
The quality film, rated only General-Pg (for the small bit of violence that is inevitable with space aliens but is given a playful spin), rolls up a million laughs in this fantabulous 86 minute film. A perfect length for a perfect performance. In the movie there are laughs all the way while viewers learn the value of family, appreciation for others and cooperation this movie is a blast, out of this world! I give it a bright four stars out of five!
