All you romantics will discover a gem a love story in the Richard Linklater film Before Sunrise. An indie filmmaker known for his insightful observations (try to find his 1991 film, Slacker), Linklater succeeds in telling a love story between an American boy ( Ethan Hawke) and a French grad student (Julie Delpy) who meet on a train bound for Vienna. He’s finishing his vacation; the two part at train bound for Vienna. He’s finishing his vacation; she’s starting school. They spend four hours together, going around Vienna and talking about everything—from past romances to their fears of the future. It makes you think of those long engaging conversations you’ve had with that someone who just gets you. But like every conversation, there is an ending; the two part at train station, knowing that it’s unlikely that they will ever see each other gin. It will leave you feeling a bit senti… and eager to see the surprise sequel, Before Sunset, thirteen years later.
