Review:

Do not expect an expanded psychological study - or anything particularly "artsy" with this film. It is not artsy. In fact, the film quality is dark and grainy, the dialogue bland, and the acting—typical for low budget films. That being said, this movie is bloody and brutal. The “plot follows a pair of young women who’ve hit rough patches in their lives: one being brutally raped and the other falling into trouble after murdering her own roommate. The pair move on throughout the film, strengthening their friendship via instigating atrocious violent and sexual attacks on various strangers. In short, they make Thelma & Louise look like an episode of "Sesame Street".

The thing that separates Baise Moi (French for “kiss me) from other bloody and brutal films is the fact that real penetration and oral sex is displayed without a care. This movie has some of the most gratuitous acts of sex and violence in all of film history, and was subsequently banned in the country in which it was made. It’s a rollercoaster ride full of action, with a storyline that has basically no point, other than to repulse and excite the viewer. In this regard, Baise Moi succeeds. This movie is certainly not for the squeamish or faint of heart. Furthermore, if you’re looking for a riveting character study—pass this by. Open-minded persons with an affinity for avante garde expressions in foreign cinema are sure to love this movie as much as I did.
